End Citizens United Fights For Fairness In The Political System

End Citizens United is constituted of members who are furious at the outcome of the just concluded general elections in the United States, where Donald Trump was elected as the leader of the free world. The movement is a Political Action Committee whose primary objective is to bring to an end the continuous use of Big Money in the process of financing campaigns for the rich. To counter the use of Big money, the PAC has ensured that it raises quite a huge sum of money from citizens, for funding campaigns for its Democrat’s champions who believe in its objectives. For instance, within a period of three months of this year, the group managed to collect approximately $4 million, and it has major plans that it focuses on ensuring they are accomplished, which involve raising more than $35 million. It intends to raise this enormous amount before the commencement of the Republicans midterm elections.

Based on its current projections, by raising $35million, it will have achieved to raise an additional $10 million which is considered to be a vast improvement from the $25 million that was raised by the PAC before the 2016 midterm elections. In the first quarter of the year, the PAC managed to receive contributions from about 100,000 members, where 40,000 of them were individuals who were highly motivated to join the PAC for the first time and help to advance its objectives. Such a move by the citizens is a clear indication that more people in the society are continually becoming tired of the campaign finance system, which was initially considered to be good but eventually turned against them.

Formation of the movement was motivated by the decision that was made by the Supreme Court in 2010, where a provision was made to allow individuals and corporations invest in the campaign processes of various political parties and people, who were interested in taking up various positions of leadership in the country. Members who are affiliated with the Political Action Committee started being encouraged to donate $5000 in support of politicians who seek a position in the Congress on a Democrats ticket.

According to Tiffany Muller, the PAC is focused on ensuring that more Democrats are elected into office, and that such individuals will be at the forefront of fighting for change in the campaign financing system that is currently established in the United States. Tiffany is the Executive Vice President of the organization, and she believes that the American system is broken, and therefore, it requires the efforts of exceptional individuals in the society to ensure that change is adopted.

George Soros Seeks Election Finance Reform

George Soros is well known as one of the leading U.S. political donors after the major push he made to financially back the campaign of Democrat John Kerry during a 2004 Presidential election the Hungarian born financial expert was heard to describe as a matter of life and death. The truth is that Soros provided $27 million in campaign funding during the 2004 Presidential election campaign, but was described as an exception to the rule for the hedge fund manager as he felt the circumstances of 2004 forced his hand to try and fight the right wing choices and policies of President George W. Bush, Politico reports. Since 2004, George Soros has largely limited his financial donations to his own Open Society Foundations, yet he remains seen as a driving force behind the Democratic Party and fights hard to combat the way the conservative media portrays him that does not discuss his charitable works in more than 100 nations across the globe. Read more about George’s life story at biography.com.

In 2008 and 2012, George Soros moved away from the Democratic Party as a donor as he believed the growing trend for wealthy donors to provide almost unlimited funds was becoming detrimental to the future of a free and democratic government. Soros has become a vocal opponent of the rising influence of wealthy donors to political parties across the board as he feels these donors are often exerting undue influence to benefit themselves and their personal needs as political leaders; Soros has become a supporter of the recently formed End Citizens United group that is fighting to have the 2010 Supreme Court Citizens United decision reversed in an attempt to return political power to the people of the U.S. As a supporter of the grassroots based End Citizens United group, George Soros has made the maximum permitted financial contribution to the traditional PAC of $5,000 and provided his personal political support.

Despite taking a step back from providing political funding at the sharp end of Presidential politics the founder of Soros Fund Management has been reported by Politico to have made a major move towards funding changes to the U.S. criminal justice system. Soros is backing the future of the U.S. by seeking to provide financial support to candidates for district attorney and prosecutor positions that often go uncontested with conservative candidates above the age of 50 and male in gender taking up important positions. Soros and his team of aides believe the lack of diversity in terms of race and gender in these positions make it difficult for minority groups to receive justice in comparison to their white male counterparts.

George Soros helping the migrant community

George Soros has become known as one of the most influential Democratic donors currently. He recently announced that he is funneling $500 million into migrant and refugee founded businesses and other ventures.

George Soros acknowledges that governments should play a role by creating adequate infrastructure, both physical and social. However he also acknowledged the power of the private sector, was a need as well. Soros announced his latest venture in a Wall Street op-ed where he said “Migrants are often forced into lives of idle despair, while host countries fail to reap the proven benefit that greater integration could bring.”

George Soros made this decision in response to the Obama administration’s call to action for American companies to play a bigger role in the refugee crisis. George Soros has earmarked $500 million for investments that target the needs of migrants, refugees and host communities.

His main focus though, will be helping migrants and refugees that are arriving in Europe. George Soros said his non-profit owned investments will complement his foundations contributions and will cover various sectors including digital technology. He believes advances in this sector can help migrants and refugees gain access more efficiently to government, legal, financial and health services.

Private companies have already started investing billions of dollars to develop these same services for non-refugee and non-migrant communities. Along with his foundation’s work, Soros says he will work with several organizations including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Rescue Committee to create a game plan that will guide his investments. George Soros wants to harness the innovations that only the private sector can create and use them to help the migrant and refugee communities across the country.
